Märklin model trains

Why the world market leader for tin toys trusts
on the packaging experts from SSI SCHÄFER Plastics

A blue miracle

As you climb the stairs of the former Märklin main entrance, a fascinating journey through the production process of the legendary tin toys begins. Märklin is one of the few brand companies to have decided to keep all production in Europe. The coveted collector's items that evoke nostalgic childhood memories are made in Hungary and Göppingen. But even legends have to face up to the competition and keep rethinking. With success: Märklin is still the world market leader for tin toys.

A strong duo

The employees at Märklin devote themselves with great dedication to handcrafting every detail of the historic trains. The problem: the parts were repeatedly damaged during transportation between the individual production steps. The sensitive paintwork suffered particularly badly. Märklin turned to the packaging experts at SSI SCHAEFER Plastics and together they found a suitable solution. After two years of development, the individual blue box was created, which reduced transport damage to almost zero.

From blue to yellow: the new box

After over 10,000 blue boxes and almost complete elimination of transport damage, the two companies were once again seized by the spirit of innovation. Together they developed an even more suitable plug-in system specially designed for Märklin's steam locomotives. These new boxes are now yellow. And show what the companies have in common: Solution-oriented action, the courage to rethink and the pursuit of a long-term, sustainable relationship.
